After taking in the many digital production features at AVENUE, guests often notice the three framed columns of lush moss art on the north wall—and ask if it’s real. We love answering with an enthusiastic yes! Our moss art does more than look beautiful; it plays a meaningful role in both the design and functionality of our space.
A Natural and Sustainable Design Element
Alongside our curved wood-beamed ceiling and reclaimed wood feature walls, our moss art brings a natural balance to AVENUE’s modern, tech-forward event space. We partnered with Dennis’ 7 Dees Urban Plantscapes to design and install the greenery and Darkstar Maintenance to craft the custom box frames, positioning the moss against our large north-facing windows for a striking visual effect.
As part of biophilic design—an approach that integrates nature into built environments—our greenery is made with 100% natural mosses. Cultivated and harvested according to ecological practices, the mosses and plants are preserved through a process that replaces moisture with natural oils, retaining the moss’s natural appearance. It requires no water, soil, or fertilizers, making it a sustainable option. This means our greenery stays vibrant without ongoing maintenance.
Enhancing Wellbeing and Air Quality
Bringing natural elements indoors enhances wellbeing, health, and productivity. The preserved moss continues to absorb moisture and airborne particles like dust out of the air without producing allergens or mold and contributes to a healthier indoor environment, making our space even more welcoming for guests.
A Natural Solution for Acoustic Comfort
Moss art has significant sound absorption. Adding moss art as an acoustic treatment in our event space-–along with the carpet, wood walls, and curtains–-complements our live event sound system and helps enhance audio clarity, reduce echo and sound reverberation, and improves speech intelligibility.
A Dynamic Visual Feature
The organic textures and deep greens of moss art create a soothing, visually rich backdrop. At evening events, we illuminate the nearly 9-foot-tall moss with strategic lighting to highlight its intricate textures and depth, adding another dimension to the space. Whether in daylight or under event lighting, the moss art installations are a captivating design feature.
